Abstract:
The integration of traditional corpus methods with AI offers exciting possibilities for Digital Humanities research. In this talk, I will explore how the AntConc corpus analysis toolkit can link concordancing, word/keyword analyses, and other established corpus linguistics practices with the insights provided by Large Language Models (LLMs), leading to highly context-sensitive and nuanced findings about language use. I will also discuss how the LLM integration in AntConc can potentially simplify the creation and annotation of corpus resources, and also provide users with a natural language query interface. These new features and functions of AntConc broaden the potential user base of corpus methods, allowing even those with limited knowledge of the field to effectively interact with corpora. They also offer users with a simple bridge to state-of-the-art open-source, open-weight, and closed-source LLMs.
